Last Sunday, I finally went to One Utama, caught a movie in cinema and ate sinful, fattening popcorn! Why am I so excited over them? Coz I deserved to, okay! Simple as that. I am very sure the last time I set my foot on the ground of One Utama was more than a year ago. I have not been watching movies in cinemas because my sis and my friends have been going without me (more than a month k!). And I've been yearning for popcorn with all those caramel coating which, on second thought, really can cause diabetes. On third thought, most food nowadays cause diabetes anyway. So, yeah, I very much deserve to be happy over the trip to One Utama.
Anyway, I went there with my family to watch Slumdog Millionaire. What can I say? It was absolutely fabulous. Okay, maybe 'fabulous' is not the right word considering how glamorous 'fabulous' sounds, which does not exactly fit a story revolving around a guy who grew up in the slums. The movie is great then.
For those of you who have been living in a cave in a far-far-away land with no clue of what Slumdog Millionaire is, it's a movie that has won 8 Oscars so far. The movie is about Jamal, an orphan from the slums area, who joins "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?". Just one question away from winning 20 million rupees, he is arrested because he is suspected of cheating. People do not believe that someone with a background like his will be able to answer all the questions correctly. This is when he tells of the story of his journey with his brother Salim, how they have survived the harsh life without their parents and how the different encounters Jamal has experienced throughout that time give him the answers to the questions in the game show. There are a lot of flashbacks in this movie, but the directors succeeds in not making the whole thing frustating to watch. I dare say the movie flows really well. Of course, there is romantic element in this story too, in the form of Latika. You want to know more? Go watch it yourself lah. Chances are, you will really enjoy it.
I really love this movie because of how it portrays the not so pretty side of India and humanity. The movie is really meaningful, not to mention the main actor, Dev Patel (Jamal) is kinda cute in a nerdy way while Freida Pinto (Latika) is totally gorgeous. Lastly, there's lots of humour, so you don't get too depressed with the sad plight of the children in the movie.
