Bo Obama

I'm sure you have heard about Barack Obama's public promise to his daughters on getting them a puppy, right? Well, then I'm sure you have at least heard of news that the Obamas have, quite recently, adopted a Portuguese water dog named Bo. According to Obama, he has decided on this breed of dog because one of his daughters is allergic and a Portuguese water dog is hypoallergenic. In other words, this breed produces less dander in their coat, which is the cause of allergy in most people.

At first, he said he would prefer to adopt a dog from the shelter, but that would be difficult since it would be hard to find a shelter dog that is hypoallergenic. That's the reason why they ended up choosing Bo.

But of course, many people aren't happy about that because they think that Obama should have adopted a dog from the shelter, which will help create awareness and encourage the public to save a shelter dog's life instead of buying a canine from a breeder or a pet shop at a high price. Well, I do agree that Obama adopting a dog from the shelter will set a good example for others to follow - after all, he is the president of the USA, so everything he does not only affect the citizens of the US but the world - but simply adopting a shelter dog with no records of family history is not very wise either, right? In his case, he has to take into account the fact that his daughter suffers from allergy. Therefore, adopting a dog of unknown background may prove to be detrimental to the health of his daughter.
So is it wrong for Obama to adopt a dog from a breeder instead of from a shelter, especially after he has claimed that he would prefer one from the latter? I think he has made the choice he made because he is concerned about his daughter's safety. If his daughter has not been allergic, then it would have been a different story altogether. Anyway, he is the president of the United States of America, not an animal rights activist, so why do people make it seems like it is compulsory for him to get a shelter dog? People just have to bring up this issue and argue because they love to find faults in others, especially celebrities. Especially those with power. What do you think?
